Okuonghae set to meet with U's

Magnus Okuonghae is set to sit down with Colchester United chiefs next week to discuss his future.

The Gazette understands the out-of-contract U’s defender will meet with U’s boss John Ward, with speculation rife about Okuonghae’s future.

The 26-year-old defender is still weighing up several options and at least one Championship club has shown firm interest in the powerful centre-back.

Middlesbrough, Millwall and Blackburn Rovers have all been linked with a move for him.

But there is still a chance that Okuonghae could stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

He has made more than 100 league and cup appearances for the U’s since joining them from Dagenham and Redbridge, in 2009.

And he has not ruled out the possibility of signing new deal offered to him, at the end of last season.

Speaking to the Gazette last month, Okuonghae revealed that he was at happy at Colchester and felt it is a club moving in the right direction.

But he also stressed that he would not be rushed into making a decision.

I for one hope that he stays, but I guess at the stage Magnus is at in his career, he may well wish to move on and improve his lot. Whatever he decides, I wish Magnus well - a real stalwart in the heart of the U's defence! Up the U's!

Magnus is going. I know he has been offered 3 times what he is earning now. Charlton are the front runners at the moment.
