Gillespie quits Colchester
2:30pm Monday 18th June 2012 in Colchester Utd By Jonathan Waldron
On his way - Steven Gillespie has left Colchester after four years with the club and signed for League Two new boys Fleetwood Town.
Colchester United forward Steven Gillespie has signed for League Two new boys Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.
The striker, who is the U's record signing after joining them from Cheltenham Town for a fee in excess of £400,000 in 2008, has ended his four-year stint at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Gillespie, 27, made 108 league and cup appearances for Colchester, scoring 28 goals.
His time at the U's was disrupted by injuries.
But he made 36 appearances last season for John Ward's side and scored 12 times, his highest season tally in Colchester colours.
Gillespie's departure leaves Colchester without a recognised out-and-out striker, following the departure of Kayode Odejayi to Rotherham United last month.
