Good news. Kem can still cut it, and he is not going to go flouncing off to some other club. For a player of his age it will probably only be a one-year deal, so if he is slowing up, the club will not be committed for too long. But he could go on and on, like Doogie.
I did hear that they are going to fit him with blinkers so that he goes forwards instead of going sideways."

Kem Izzet is close to signing a new contract with Colchester United.

The U’s skipper, currently in his testimonial season, is keen to extend his long stay at the club.

Izzet, 31, is one of more than a dozen Colchester players due to be out of contract at the end of the season.

But he has already been offered a fresh deal and looks set to follow the lead of Karl Duguid and commit his future to the U’s.

Izzet said: “The contract is there - it’s just a matter of finalising a few bits and pieces.

“I’m sure everything will be signed and it’s just a matter of getting the right deal for me and my family.

“The manager knows that and me signing it isn’t a big issue.

“It’s a case of making sure I get the right deal but the future is bright for this football club."
