Colchester United winger Ashley Vincent has admitted he faces a battle to force his way back into John Ward’s plans.
But the skilful attacker is determined to play a part in the U’s busy run of games in League One, over the coming weeks.
Vincent, 26, is now back in full training following two-and-a-half months out with a hamstring injury and is ready to return to first-team action.
And although he admitted he is lacking match practice, the former Wolves trainee believes he can make an impact for U’s boss Ward, when required.
Vincent said: “I’m back in full training and desperate to get back as quickly as possible, in a sensible manner.
“There’s a long run of Saturday-Tuesday games coming up for us, over the next few weeks.
“We’ve got some great games to look forward to in that sequence against the likes of Sheffield United, Charlton and Huddersfield.
“I just want to play as much as possible.
“It would be good to play a reserve game of some kind and I need some game time.
“But I think that the type of player that I am means that I can offer something different from the bench.
“That’s down to the manager and it’s his decision but I’d like to think that I’m with a shout.
“I hope there won’t be any injuries or niggles within the squad but if there is, there may be a chance of the manager using me.”
