Baldwin leaves U's for Southend

Pat Baldwin's long association with Colchester United ended tonight when he completed a permanent move to Essex rivals Southend United.

The popular defender has joined the League Two promotion-chasers on a deal until the end of the season.

Baldwin, 29, made nearly 250 league and cup appearances for the U's and was part of their promotion-winning squad, in 2006.

He spent nearly ten years at Colchester, having signed for them in August 2002 from Chelsea.

Baldwin has found his first-team opportunities limited under John Ward this season and was restricted to just four starts in League One.

One player i'm very sorry to see leave. Has been a true loyal servant to the club over the last 9 odd years. Seems that Pat is devastated in leaving the club that he loves ,but after reading his story in the East Anglian over the wekend he was not wanted by John Ward and was not going to get a fresh contract offered come end of the season. Would have been nice however if the club had offered him a testmonial in regonition of his services.

Totally agree with the above comments, Pat Baldwin has been a loyal servant to CUFC over the last decade. JW has made a mistake letting Pat go, should have been playing far more regularly.

As for going to our Essex cousins, less said about that the better!!
