Colchester United winger Michail Antonio is hoping watching his parent club Reading will provide him with extra inspiration this weekend.

The U’s loanee was at Ashton Gate to watch his Royals club-mates come from two goals down to beat Bristol City 3-2 in a Championship match, on Tuesday night.

Antonio - who has been on loan at Colchester since the end of last month - took the opportunity to speak to his Reading boss Brian McDermott during his visit.

And the speedy 21-year-old is now looking forward to showing more of what he can do in a U’s shirt when this weekend, when they travel to play Chesterfield in a League One encounter.

Antonio said: “It was nice to see a few familiar faces.

“I went into the dressing room and spoke to the manager and the assistant manager and it was good to see them.

“It was my choice to go and watch the game and I’m glad that I did.

“It’s difficult sometimes when you come to a new team to show what you can do.

“But I’m putting 110 per cent into every game I play and I hope that it shows.

“We’ve only lost one game in our last six and the boys are buzzing.

“We may have drawn a few games but we’re getting points on the table and we’re feeling confident.”
