David Mooney heads back to Charlton tonight - determined for a happier experience than the last time he visited The Valley.
The Colchester United striker, then on loan with the Addicks, scored in last season’s League One play-off semi-final second leg against Swindon.
However, the night ended in heartache as the tie finished 3-3 on aggregate, with the Wiltshire side winning 5-4 on penalties and booking their spot at Wembley.
Despite that bitter pill, the Reading man - on loan at the U’s for the rest of the season - is relishing the thought of going back to The Valley.
“It’s going to be an exciting game for me personally and I’m really looking forward to it,” he told the Gazette.
“It’s a great club and I met some lovely people.
“I’ve got good memories of my time with them, although the last time I played there was in the play-off semi-final, when I scored but we got beaten on penalties.
“That was so disappointing but hopefully tonight will be a good night and we can come away with all three points."
