Colchester United midfielder David Fox is adamant his side can challenge for a top two spot despite their amateurish display last week

Aidy Boothroyd was right to label his Colchester United players amateurish, according to David Fox.

However, the skilful midfielder is adamant the U’s can still challenge for a top-two spot, in Coca-Cola League One.

Colchester boss Boothroyd was critical of his players after their 2-1 defeat to ten-man Carlisle United, last weekend.

But the promotion-chasing U’s will aim to get back on track when they travel to play Walsall at the Bescot Stadium tomorrow.

Fox said the club’s players have taken their manager’s criticism on board this week. And the former Manchester United trainee remains confident that they can still snatch an automatic promotion spot, with 11 games to play.

Fox said: “I think the manager had a point."

Was this statement taken from the dream 100 radio show last night?. I also heard Foxy say on this programe in answer back to a question that you have to play to the managers instructions. That answered my question to why we never see the real skillfull David Fox at his best. Good skillfull players being wrecked under the present managment.

Hmm, I kind of see what you mean... Prutton for example his more then capable of shooting outside the box but after scoring one, its like everyone has been told not to shoot... only the strikers. I believe in the "if you got a chance on goal then shoot" stratgery which almost every premere league club has. We really need to win this game to get back on track.. but to get increased support and backing we need to win this game with flying colours. Good luck U's

The more I read and hear about Aidy Boothroyd the more I get angry. Reading further comments by David Fox in the East Anglian its obvious Boothroyd ony wants physical players and not footballers playing for him. Then we hear from Pat Baldwin who has been told he has defintely no future at all with the U's. After watching Baldwin play a stormer last weekend then Boothroyd has not got a bl--dy clue what a decent footballer is. If he wants the Izzets, Heaths,Otooles,Hende
rsons Prutons, to form his team then good riddance to my support while he is in charge. Promotion dont make me laugh.

I tend to agree with above comments, I am waiting to see how we perform over the next couple of months because the people at the club at the moment seem to be happy with the way the team are playing....me for one have only seen one really great performance and that was the Charlton game!
The Norwich game was a fluke and has cost us so so much, not only a great young manager but a style of play too! If I am to renew my season ticket soon I expect to be entertained, a win would be good but that is not always my be all and end all.
So far this season we have been very lucky in some of our results and also played poorly and the people in charge seem to be happy with that! that to me is very worrying, because if Wordsworth keeps playing, Pat Baldwin who is colu through and through leaves and Tierney goes then I will not be getting my ticket, I will just buy them when certain game interest me.
Unleash the players and lets play some attacking FOOTBALL.........

Are you a betting man Feisty???????
You name the odds. I will take a genuine bet with you that we do not get promotion. Seriously Feisty do you honestly believe we play constructive football that's entertaining to watch. Apart from going to the community stadium what other football do you watch?
Do you really think we would survive in the championship playing this kind of football. I have not heard one person yet say to me that Matt Heath is a better player than Pat Baldwin. I saw Baldwin playing last week and he was by far the best player on the field for Southend. A class ahead of Matt Heath. At least Feisty I will have the chance to watch championship football next year. We have better players at Col Utd than Norwich thats fact, but they do have a manager that plays his team as organised. We have Vincent back but not playing wide. He has pace but do we see him use it?/ Being wasted again. We have Hackney, Medy both wide men. Do we use them as they should be used.? The blunt answer is no. The tactics or style that Boothroyd uses does not suit them so thats why they are not effective. Gilly is wasted. Give him proper service and he would score a lot of goals. As I said Heath,Henderson,Izze
t no class just ankle snappers. If you think these kind of players will take you into the championship then you know nothing regards football. If you have then give a decent reply back and reasons instead of being sarcastic.

Well said Haggy. You have to be honest and its the truth. The Charlton game was one of Aidys first games in charge but at the time other teams did not know how we were going to play. Now everyone knows and prepares for it. Keep our front two marked well and game won because we produce nothing else. No wingers to worry about because we have none. The opponents defence then just keeps picking up the hooved up balls and start attacks going.

I have no idea why we need a midfield at the moment all we want to do is boot the ball up to the forwards (who are not holding it up enough for the midfield to attack)
We have some very good midfielders at the club lets use them and we will stand a good chance of making the playoffs.
