Kem Izzet admits he took “one for the team” after being hit with a two-match ban.
But the long-serving Colchester United midfielder insists he will not compromise his tenacious style of play.
Izzet picked up his tenth booking of the season in the U’s 0-0 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion.
The experienced Colchester star was cautioned after bringing down Seagulls’ Glenn Murray, as he threatened to penetrate the U’s defence.
Had Izzet not made the challenge just before half-time, Murray could easily have had a clear run at goal.
Now he will have to sit out Colchester’s forthcoming away trips to Carlisle United and Walsall.
Izzet told the Gazette: “I knew I was there or there abouts with nine bookings and that if I picked up another one, I would be out."
