PAT Baldwin was as surprised as anyone by his last-gasp equaliser on his Southend United debut against Swindon Town on Saturday.
For not only had the on-loan Colchester defender previously scored just once in 229 games, but he also knew very little about the goal which secured a 2-2 draw for the Shrimpers at Roots Hall.
“I felt it hit my head but I didn’t see it cross the line so it was all quite confusing,” said Baldwin, who along with striker Scott Vernon has joined on loan until the end of the season from the U’s.
“I don’t get many goals though and my only other one actually came against Southend, so it was nice to score for the club as well especially on my debut.”

A cult figure for Saffend already. Well done Pat, true professional perfomance by you and Scott on Saturday by all accounts.
