Skipper Luke Prosser says Colchester United’s players cannot wait to return to action today on the back of their morale-boosting win over Luton Town.

The U’s take on Forest Green Rovers this afternoon in buoyant mood following their impressive 2-1 triumph over the promotion-chasing Hatters on Good Friday.

Colchester have taken seven points from a possible nine and lie six points off the play-off positions, with six games remaining.

And ahead of this afternoon’s game at the New Lawn, centre-back Prosser says they are keen to get back to action.

Prosser said: “When you’ve had a good win like the one against Luton, you can’t wait to play again.

“We’ve had two good wins and a couple of clean sheets, so we’ve got a bit of momentum.

“We’ll go again at Forest Green and see what happens and we’re just taking each game as it comes.

“We’re not getting carried away but there are a lot of points still to play for. We’re not in a bad position and you want to be the team with a bit of momentum and good form going into the play-off spots but the focus is now on Forest Green.

“We’ve not been bad away from home in recent weeks, so it’s a game we’re all looking forward to.”

Prosser scored his first-ever Colchester goal in the victory over Luton, doubling their advantage after Tom Eastman had given them an early lead.

Danny Hylton netted a late penalty for the Hatters but it proved only a consolation for the visitors.

Prosser said: “It was my first goal for a while but I had been out for 14 months, which was a long time.

“I’m disappointed that I celebrated at the wrong end – I celebrated to no-one and I should have turned around to my family!

“The gaffer has said that we need to get goals from different areas – we can’t just keep relying on Mika (Mandron).

“Easty popped up with the first and I managed to pop up with the second, so it was good.

“We were disappointed we didn’t keep a clean sheet but we were under a lot of pressure.

“On another day, I’d have liked to have said we’d kept a clean sheet but we held on in the end.

“Luton weren’t at their best in the first half, so we knew that they were going to throw the kitchen sink at us but I thought we dealt with it really well.

“We were disappointed to give the penalty away in the end and there were a few tired legs but we showed our composure, at times.

Colchester’s under-23s are also in action this afternoon.

They travel to play Sheffield United in Professional Development League Two, kick-off 2pm.
