Colchester United found themselves pegged back on a frustrating trip to Carlisle United on Saturday.

Courtney Senior's goal just before half-time proved to be the only time they found the back of the net and although the visitors created numerous chances to score more, they were unable to take them.

It left them disappointed when Jamie Devitt slammed home an unstoppable free-kick in the 79th minute as the hosts rescued a point and the U's were left to reflect on what might have been.

Here, the Gazette's Simon Spurgeon rates the U's players on their performances:

SAM WALKER 8

Breath-taking stop in the first-half was world class, but had no chance with Devitt’s free-kick equaliser.

TOM EASTMAN 7

Battled well throughout against a physical Carlisle front line and dealt strongly with testing balls into the middle

LUKE PROSSER 7

Continued his comeback from injury with another assured display in a tight back three unit.

FRANKIE KENT 6

The youngster continues to show he is maturing into a classy defender with some timely interceptions.

RYAN JACKSON 7

Gave an important outlet to attacking play out wide as well as being solid in defensive duties.

BRANDON COMLEY 6

Was tigerish in the middle of the U’s midfield in attack and defence.

BEN STEVENSON 6

Looked accomplished on the ball in the centre on his first start for Colchester.

DREY WRIGHT 6

Worked hard to nullify Carlisle threats coming from their right flank and got forward well to support attacks.

COURTNEY SENIOR 6

Showed maturity and composure to tuck home U’s first goal but had less impact after the break.

MIKAEL MANDRON 7

Led the line well as strong movement up front got him in behind the home defence and hit the post late on.

KURTIS GUTHRIE 6

Unlucky not to open the scoring in first half and was unfortunate to pick up an injury after a heavy challenge.
