Colchester United striker Mikael Mandron hungry for more wins after brace against Crewe Alexandra

The U’s are now officially League Two’s most in-form team, after Mandron’s brace helped them defeat Alex 3-1 and make it 14 points from a possible 21 in their last seven games.

John McGreal’s side lie five points off the play-off places with a third of the campaign gone and striker Mandron believes they are on the up.

Mandron said: “I feel like the season is getting going now for us.

“It took us a few games to get going but now we have momentum and we need to keep that form going.

“We’ve only lost one of our last seven league games and it feels good.

“It’s credit to the whole team because there’s been games where we haven’t played too well and we haven’t been able to get a win but we did that (against Crewe).

“We work hard as a team every day and talk a lot about what we have to do both on and off the pitch and it worked well (against Crewe).”

Mandron now has six goals to his game so far this season, after his double against Crewe.

The Frenchman has struck four times in the U’s last five matches and says he is enjoying his football.

“It feels great to get two goals,” said the former Sunderland striker.

“I’ve been looking for those goals for a while and I feel good.

“I’m getting there little by little with the goals and hopefully I’ll be in double figures soon.

“For my first goal, I was at the back post just waiting for the ball and it dropped nicely for me and the second one was a great cross from Jacko, which I was able to tap in.

“We started slowly but the goal really helped us and we came back out after half-time a lot better.”

Mandron has been regularly partnering Brandon Hanlan in Colchester’s attack and the 23-year-old says he is enjoying playing alongside the Charlton Athletic loanee.

He added: “I’m enjoying my partnership with Brandon.

“We both work really hard both on the pitch and in training, to try and link up.

“Hopefully, we’ll be getting more goals in the future.”
