Colchester United head coach John McGreal had words of praise for his two goalscorers following their 2-0 win over Mansfield Town this afternoon.

First-half goals from Sean Murray and Mikael Mandron were enough to seal an impressive victory for the U's at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Murray struck for the second successive week to open the scoring for Colchester and then five minutes later, provided a superb cross for Mandron to superbly head in at the far post for a second.

McGreal said: “It was great for Sean, who’s put a lot of toil into the position he plays and now he’s getting his rewards with some goals.

“We’ve been working on different set plays and Kyel Reid has done something different for Sean to score.

“Sean also put a quality ball in for Mika’s goal and he also put some quality free-kicks in - Mika has got his head on it and it’s a great finish from him.

“I thought Mika was a threat - he was excellent.

“Sean could have had a hat-trick but it hasn’t come back to bite us and it was a thoroughly professional victory."

Colchester have now taken seven points out of nine in League Two and boss McGreal believes they are building some momentum.

He said: “It’s a really good win against one of the top teams in this division and the experience of Steve (Evans) and the promotions that he’s had.

“It’s great for us because we want to build a bit of momentum and keep getting points.

“We love playing at home, where we get the fans right behind us.

“We always tend to start well here which we did again today and it’s a great win.

“We do tend to get chances at home and you always fancy us to create more than we do away but hopefully we can even that out.”
