Colchester United’s busy transfer deadline day has continued with the signing of ex- Wigan Athletic striker Sanmi Odelusi.

The 24-year-old former Bolton Wanderers youngster follows midfielder Brandon Comely and Brandon Hanlan, who have joined on loans from QPR and Charlton respectively, in coming into the club and has signed a deal with the U’s until the end of the season.

Odelusi, who had loan spells at Rochdale and Blackpool last season, has been with the team for the last couple of weeks and has been training with the first team.

He admitted that he had liked what he had seen during his time with Colchester so far and was pleased to put pen to paper on a deal after being released by Wigan at the end of last season.

He said: “I got a phone call asking if I wanted to come down here two weeks ago to see what I thought of the club.

“Everyone has been really good and nice to me and we’ve come to an agreement so that I’ve signed until the end of the season.”

Odelusi joined Wigan in the summer of 2015, but after struggling to break into the Latics’ first team he made 19 appearances on loan for Rochdale, where he scored one goal, last season, before a loan spell at the end of the campaign at Blackpool, where he also scored once in helping them gain promotion from League Two.
