John McGreal has praised Colchester United's fans for their support during his first season in charge.

More than 6,500 flocked to the Weston Homes Community Stadium for their final game of the League Two campaign, which ended in a 2-0 win over Yeovil Town.

Colchester finished eighth in League Two, one point off the play-off positions.

McGreal said: "The biggest thing for me in the learning curve is getting the fans really behind us and that connection with the club and the players again.

“In the last six or seven games where there’s been more pressure to win games of football, I think the young team has stepped on.

"We've set out to get that connection and feel-good factor from day one.

"It's taken us a little while but if you think back since the time of the Christmas period and the fans turning out in their numbers today, it's brilliant.

"That's what we want - we want to entertain our fans and I think we've done that especially at home.

"The noise was terrific (against Yeovil) and I want to thank the fans, because it does make a difference."
