Our game against Luton Town looked to be our last chance to prove we are still League Two play-off contenders.

We succeeded.

Two early goals from Chris Porter ensured that, for a second time this season, we took three points off a high-flying Luton and this has launched us right back into the race to Wembley.

The U’s now find themselves just two points from the play-offs and just five away from fourth-placed Stevenage, who we face in our next home game.

Last Saturday was the day that we managed to win it in midfield and really support Porter.

There was a massive difference between this and the previous weekend’s dismal performance at Crewe Alexandra.

We can only hope to put an end to our poor away form and really challenge as we enter the business end of the season.

Yet another Brennan Dickenson assist meant that the U’s launched themselves into an early lead against Luton.

And this was doubled when Porter scored his second after a penalty box scrap resulted in the ball just about crossing the line.

George Elokobi made an outstanding goal-line save as Luton’s 19-year-old full-back James Justin beat keeper Sam Walker and looked to gain a late goal for the Hatters.

The 1,800 or so Luton fans didn’t have much to sing about, especially after no win in five games.

They have been nowhere near their best when they’ve played us this season and I don’t understand how they find themselves above us in the league.

So to this weekend when we face Notts County, a team towards the bottom of the table who have picked up in recent games.

Two 1-0 wins against top half opposition in the last ten days has proved that they’re no walkover.

We need to go there, attack and not sit back and defend.

The three points against Luton shows that we can do it against the big teams.

Ten points from our remaining four home games would certainly put us up there challenging.

But one thing letting us down at the moment is our goal difference.

It stands at four and the average in the play-off positions is 17.

We need the points but we’ve proved ourselves contenders against Luton.
