Colchester United will today assess the extent of Tommy O'Sullivan's knee injury sustained in their under-23 clash with Coventry City last night.

O'Sullivan, who joined the U's from Cardiff City last month, was substituted in the first half of their 1-1 draw with the Sky Blues in Professional Development League Two, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The Wales under-21 international will be seen by the club's medical staff today.

Colchester will be hoping that the midfielder's injury is not serious, especially with new signing Sean Murray suspended for three matches and Craig Slater nursing a groin problem of late.

Colchester under-23 boss Wayne Brown told the Daily Gazette: “Tommy O’Sullivan needed game time but he had to go off in the first half.

“We’ll have to see how it is and he will be assessed this afternoon."

Doug Loft was provisionally pencilled in to play in last night's game against Coventry, as he continues his comeback from an Achilles injury.

However, the former Brighton and Gillingham midfielder, who has not played a competitive match for the U's since last August, was deemed not quite ready to be involved.

“The physios and sports scientists have a programme for Doug and it was felt that he was not quite right to be involved," added Brown.

“But he’s one that we’re looking to get involved in the coming weeks and that will be a boost for everyone."
