Colchester United have signed experienced goalkeeper Dean Brill until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old former Luton Town and Barnet shot-stopper has signed for the U's after being released by Scottish Premier League club Motherwell, last week.

Brill will provide competition for Sam Walker and Dillon Barnes, in the first-team squad at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester had been on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after James Bransgrove's shock decision to quit football, last month.

U's Head of Player Resources Iain Moody told the Daily Gazette: “Dean Brill’s an experienced goalkeeper.

“When James Bransgrove left we needed to bring someone in and we were quite short of experience.

“Dillon is a quality goalkeeper and one for the future.

"But bringing in an experienced goalkeeper like Dean will enable us to allow Dillon to go out on loan and get some experience outside of the window, to a non-league club."
