Chris Porter admitted to having mixed emotions after scoring twice in Colchester United’s 2-2 draw with Morecambe.

The 32-year-old forward bagged his second brace of the season for the U’s but was unable to help them secure a much-needed victory in League Two.

Colchester have now gone seven league games without a win and have slipped to 15th position in the table.

Porter feels they deserved to beat Morecambe and insists they are not worrying about their recent results, despite not having won since September 10.

Porter told the Daily Gazette: “I was pleased to get another two goals but I’m gutted we didn’t win.

“We’ve dominated both of our last two games and deserved six points.

“To come away with only one point is disappointing but that’s football.

“I didn’t think Morecambe were particularly dangerous and we just need a little bit of luck at the minute.

“Things aren’t going our way and we have a few injuries but taking the positives out of it, we’ve performed well against two good teams.

“I don’t think there’s any need to worry whatsoever at the minute.

“You have to keep working hard and you only start worrying when you’re not creating chances or hanging on for draws.

“At the moment, we are dominating and drawing a lot of games – we’re not losing games which we probably would have done last year.

“I don’t think there’s any reason why we can’t go to Plymouth this weekend and get three points.

“We shouldn’t have beaten Doncaster and we’ll be looking to try and get the win.”

Porter was pleased with his brace of goals, the second of which was scored from the first penalty Colchester have been awarded this season.

He said: “It was a great move for the first goal and it would be nice to see that one again.

“It was a great cross by Kane (Vincent-Young) and a nice finish.

“It was our first penalty this season and I think bigger clubs tend to get more penalties but it was nice to get one and slot it away.”

Porter was paired with fellow forward Denny Johnstone in attack for the first time this season and the former Sheffield United striker felt they combined well.

“I think it worked – it was obviously our first time so we’re still getting to know each other’s game,” said Porter, who is Colchester’s leading goalscorer with six goals.

“But especially in the first half, I thought we created a lot of chances and overall, I thought it worked especially after we scored twice having not scored recently.”
