KANE Vincent-Young says he is prepared to play in any position if it means keeping his place in Colchester United's starting line-up.

The 20-year-old made his first league start for more than seven months for the U's in their 1-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers, last weekend.

Vincent-Young has established himself as a right-back but was deployed in an inside-right role for Colchester, at the Keepmoat Stadium.

And the former Spurs youngster says he is happy to play anywhere for the U's, as he attempts to hold down a spot in John McGreal's first XI.

Vincent-Young told the Daily Gazette: "I was delighted to finally get my first league start of the season last weekend.

"I was shattered afterwards because it was my first league start but I enjoyed it, apart from obviously the result.

"Hopefully I'll be able to keep my place in the team for the Morecambe game.

"But whatever the management team do, it'll be geared towards us getting three points.

"Everyone will be going out there looking to get the three points.

"It is frustrating when you're not playing but we trust in the manager to play the team to do the job in the right way on any given day.

"We were all absolutely gutted to lose at Doncaster, after the performance that we put in and we were all hurting afterwards.

"But we're very together as a squad and we know that we're on the right track.

"We're playing Morecambe at home on Saturday and we'll need the fans to get behind us as we try and get that win.

"We have to keep working hard and trying to do the right things in training and in matches."

Vincent-Young says he enjoyed playing in a more advanced position for Colchester, at Doncaster.

He played there for nearly an hour before being replaced by winger Dion Sembie-Ferris, in the League Two clash.

"It was a different kind of challenge but I felt that I did my job," added Vincent Young, who made his U's debut in August, 2015.

"I was deployed in that role to counter-act their diamond and I felt it went well.

"It's not a role I've played in much apart from when I was a youngster and I've played as a right-back for as long as I can remember.

"But I enjoyed it and I'm happy to play anywhere in the team.

"We'd worked on it in training, so I was prepared for it.

"I'm naturally defensive-minded but I also like to get forward.

"There was a lot of running involved - I knew that I had to help out Richard Brindley at right-back and then once you've dealt with that, you have to help with the attack.

"It's an up and down position but it's something you have to do and I enjoyed it."
