Luke Prosser admits it is down to Colchester United’s players to turn their results around after they were beaten 1-0 at Doncaster Rovers.

The U’s skipper is anticipating an important few days on the training ground this week and admits they must win this weekend’s home clash with Morecambe, following a six-match run without a victory in League Two and three matches without a goal.

Prosser said: “It’s down to us now – I hope the fans stick with us and it’s a big week on the training ground.

“We have to keep positive and we all know we have to win our next game, especially at home.

“When you’re in a position like this, you do your basics right and hopefully they do the business at the other end.

“At the moment, it’s not really falling for us and we’re not clinical enough but that will change, as we’re getting in good positions and we’re creating enough chances to win games.

“At the moment, we’re not really getting that rub of green but that will change.

“Everyone is hurting but we have to pick ourselves up, go again and get a win next week.”

Colchester were the better side at Doncaster and had twice as many efforts on goal as their hosts.

But they left the Keepmoat Stadium empty-handed, following Tommy Rowe’s well-taken goal just before half-time.

“We’re extremely disappointed not to take something from the game,” added Prosser, who returned to the U’s starting line-up at Doncaster following suspension.

“I thought we played well and it was a big blow to concede right on half-time.

“But we still knew that we had had chances to be one or two goals up and in the second half, we really took it at them.

“Don’t get me wrong, they had one or two opportunities at the end but we created more than enough chances to easily come away with a point, if not the win.

“I’m one of the older players and we’ll all say our bit after the game with the manager.

“We are a young team, there’s no getting away from that but they’ll learn a lot from games like this.

“Doncaster are second in the league and it’s not an easy place to come to.

“We gave a good account of ourselves – we conceded just before half-time but we can only learn from that and we’re a young squad.

“Doncaster are a good team – there’s no doubt about that.

“They got their goal and they defended pretty well but we were more than capable of getting the three points.

“One lapse in concentration cost us and that was extremely frustrating but we’ll go again.”
