COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal hopes his team’s free-scoring style lures more fans back to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The U’s are among the top scorers in League Two and only Luton, Doncaster, Grimsby and Stevenage have managed more than their tally of 13.

Equally, Colchester have conceded ten goals - more than all the other sides in the top ten, apart from Morecambe.

It has made for some exciting matches, like last weekend’s dramatic 3-2 victory against Blackpool.

In fact, the last three home matches have all finished 3-2, with Grimsby beaten by that score but Exeter winning by the odd goal in five on September 3.

And McGreal hopes his side’s attacking style will help attract bigger crowds to the stadium - only just over 3,000 were there on Saturday.

“Hopefully it will bring the fans back – there’s goals here,” said the U’s boss.

“We look as though we can score goals as well as concede them.

“We have to tighten up a little bit but there’s free flowing football at times and chances at both ends, so I’m sure the fans will have gone home happy having seen the win and also some goals as well.

“There are different ways of winning games of football but with the quality that we have in the team, it looks as though we can score goals.

“We’ve already shown that we can keep clean sheets too and there are many more there for us.

“It’s about having those little reminders and little habits when we’re in game situations to get us over the line.”

Meanwhile, Chris Porter’s double strike in Saturday’s victory has seen him named in the EFL Team of the Week.

His two second-half goals sealed the points against opposition relegated from League One last season.
