TARIQUE Fosu believes his past experience of striving for League Two promotion will stand him in good stead at his new club Colchester United.

The skilful winger is in line to make his U’s debut against Exeter City tomorrow after joining them on loan from Championship club Reading until January.

Fosu, who has also spent time on loan at Fleetwood Town, has already played in League Two while on loan at Accrington Stanley last season, where he helped them reach the play-offs.

And with fourth-placed Colchester aiming for success in the fourth tier themselves this season, the 20-year-old feels his knowledge of the division can prove vital.

Fosu said: “They were very good experiences (at Fleetwood and Accrington).

“I got a few games in League One so it was good at Fleetwood and I then went to Accrington, who were fighting for promotion.

“I scored a few goals there and felt I did well and it was just unlucky that we didn’t get promoted.

“I had a good time at Accrington - it helped me a lot and winning League Two Player of the Month was good.

“It’s a small club but there are good people there and they supported me very well.”

Fosu trained with his new Colchester team-mates for the first time at Florence Park yesterday morning and said he was impressed by what he saw.

“There are lovely facilities here and I’ve met some of the boys,” said Fosu, who revealed he received a good luck message from Reading team-mate and former U’s loanee Callum Harriott after making the temporary move to Essex.

“It looks like a very good club, so hopefully I can keep going.

“I have seen them play a few times before and I like the way they play.

“I think I suit the style of play so it all looks good.

“I play out wide but I like to come in and combine and hopefully people will see a lot of that.

“I think creativity is one of my strengths – I’m quite skilful and quick and hopefully I can excite the fans with a few goals, as well.”
