Colchester United will put their impressive winning run on the line against high-flying Bury today.

And U’s boss Tony Humes is hoping the clash of League One’s two in-form sides will attract a bumper crowd to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester are flying after winning their last four matches and have not lost at home for more than six months.

But their visitors Bury are the leading form side in the division, having racked up six successive league and cup wins and have not lost in 14 away games.

It promises to be a thrilling affair and Humes is hoping that the prospect of two confident sides going head to head will help to boost the attendance.

Humes said: “We want people to see we’re a decent, entertaining team and that we’re starting to get success.

“Hopefully that brings more through the gate to see what we’re doing and gets more people involved with the football club overall.

“It’s been hyped up to be a big game as they’re on a good run and we’re on a good run.

“That’s why it’s been taken in that context but it’s just another game as far as we’re concerned.

“We have to make sure we carry on doing what we’re doing and we can’t be too worried about how Bury are feeling.

“They’ll be full of confidence but so are we and it has all the makings of a good game.”

Humes says he is enjoying managing his in-form Colchester side - but says his players deserve the credit for their recent upturn in fortunes.

The U’s boss has presided over the club’s best run of league form for nearly six years, leading them up to eighth in the table and a point off the play-off places.

And Colchester will be hoping to record a fifth straight league win for the first time since February 2006, this weekend.

“You go through so many emotions but all the credit has to go to the players on the pitch,” who is in line for a September Manager of the Month nomination.

“It’s down to them but you’ve got to enjoy it, because it’s such a great opportunity.”
