Colchester United captain Chris Porter has been ruled out of his side’s trip to play former club Sheffield United tomorrow night.

The experienced striker, who made more than 100 league and cup appearances for the Blades before leaving them to join the U’s in January, has not played since injuring his ankle in the 2-2 draw with Blackpool, on the opening day of the League One season.

Porter returned to training in the early part of last week but suffered a setback in his recovery and will definitely miss the game at Bramall Lane, as the U’s go in search of their first win of the season.

Colchester boss Tony Humes said: “Chris wasn’t that near (to playing against Chesterfield) – he trained in the early part of the week.

“He got a bit of a reaction and it didn’t really get any better.

“He won’t be right for Tuesday but we just have to wait and see how he progresses and develops.

“But we’re probably looking at at least another week before we get there.”
