Tony Humes has hinted he could make changes to his Colchester United starting line-up for their League Cup clash with Reading.
The U’s boss will assess his players’ condition following their 2-2 draw with Blackpool in their League One opener, last weekend.
Humes said: “A big aspect is their recovery from the previous game.
“It was always massively hot out there for the first game of the season and they expend a lot of energy.
“Other players need to play as well and it might be a case of having a look to see which area we change it around or we might just stick with it and see where we go.”
Goalkeeper Sam Walker is in line for his first start of the season in place of Elliot Parish, who made his debut in the U’s 2-2 opening-day draw with Blackpool.
Kane Vincent-Young, who impressed during pre-season, could also feature at left-back in place of Matt Briggs who was substituted late on against the Seasiders.
And the likes of Sammie Szmodics and Dion Sembie-Ferris are also pushing for starts against the Royals.
George Elokobi played 45 minutes for Colchester’s under-21s in their 4-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town yesterday but is unlikely to start the first-round tie.
