Tony Humes wants Colchester United to improve their home form next season.

Four of the U’s first six league and cup matches in the first month of the season will be at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The U’s will host Blackpool on August 8, along with Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe United in the league, later in the month.

And Championship outfit Reading are their opponents in the Capital One Cup first round.

After struggling on home soil last season, Colchester finished the previous campaign in strong fashion at the Community Stadium.

They were unbeaten in their final five matches at the venue, capping that run with a fine 1-0 win over Preston North End on the final day.

And boss Humes wants that kind of form to continue, in the forthcoming campaign.

Humes said: “The home form is one of the big things we want to improve, next season.

“Over recent seasons, it has been a problem achieving the consistency that we’d like at home.

“But the way that we finished the season proves that it can be done, with our results in our last five matches there.

“It gives us the recognition that we can do it and we have to make sure that we believe in it.

“We’re at home to start with and with our last game at home too, it sets the season up nicely for us.”
