Magnus Okuonghae will leave Colchester United after six years at the club.

The powerful centre-back has been released by the U's, after they decided not to offer him a new contract.

Okuonghae joined the U's from Dagenham and Redbridge in July 2009 after being signed by Paul Lambert.

He made well over 200 appearances for Colchester and had two spells as the club's captain.

But he sat out the majority of this season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in a match against Coventry City.

Okuonghae is now looking for a new club, after his time at the Weston Homes Community Stadium came to an end.

U's boss Tony Humes said: "Magnus has been an excellent servant to the club and has been club captain.

“It was a difficult decision to let him go, especially with the serious injury he sustained, but with the direction in which the club are going, it was felt that it would be in both parties’ interests for Magnus to seek his football future elsewhere.

“As a player and a person, he served the club well and we wish him all the best wherever he goes next."
