Tony Humes says keeping his current Colchester United squad together is one of his top priorities this summer.

The U’s boss has confirmed he has held talks with playmaker David Fox about him staying at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

And Humes is also keen on bringing the likes of loanee Richard Brindley back to Colchester, following his contribution in helping them stay in League One.

Colchester have already allowed Sean Clohessy and Dominic Smith to leave, with the likes of Jabo Ibehre set to follow suit.

Humes has confirmed he is on the lookout for some experienced signings, over the coming weeks.

However, he has stressed he is also eager to keep the players who were involved in the club’s memorable finish to the season.

Humes said: “We’re crying out for continuity and consistency and it would be great to keep the nucleus of the squad together."
