Colchester United will go all out to take another stride towards League One survival tomorrow.

And Tony Humes believes his confident side will head to Coventry City in their best run of form since he took over as manager.

The U’s are two points from safety ahead of tomorrow’s showdown at the Ricoh Arena, just three points adrift of their hosts in the table.

Colchester take on the Sky Blues in confident mood, having recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season over the Easter weekend.

And as the U’s attempt to register their first win in Coventry for more than 58 years, boss Humes feels his side are having their best run since he succeeded Joe Dunne, last September.

Humes said: “In terms of the points we’ve picked up, it’s been the best run we’ve had since we took over.

“We’ve never picked up ten points from four games and long may it continue.

“Sometimes when things matter in a game, the real players and characters come out.”

Colchester know the outcome of their game at Coventry could play a big part in determining their fate, this season.

It is just one of a number of fixtures in League One tomorrow between clubs currently battling against relegation.

Crewe host Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe entertain Crawley and Notts County travel to play Yeovil Town, as the fight for survival hots up.

But despite the implications of the games, Humes was reluctant to label it a pivotal weekend.

“We can’t look at other results until we’ve finished our game and got those points on the board,” added the U’s boss.

“Things have changed so rapidly for clubs over a short space of time that you never know what’s going to happen.

“If we continue in the next four games like we have in our last four games, we might find ourselves with two games to go in a different position.

“We’re not looking at that though - we’re looking at the next game which I’m sure every club will be doing.”

Humes believes his young players such as Alex Gilbey and Tom Lapslie will relish playing at the Ricoh Arena.

“Our young players know that they’re coming up against a big club and they want to challenge themselves week in, week out.

“It’s a fantastic stadium and I think it holds around 30,000.

“They’re learning with every game and the experience that they’re getting is great.”
