Colchester United manager Tony Humes wants his players to enjoy their 3-1 win over play-off chasing Barnsley - and then focus on maintaining their momentum in League One.

The U's gave their survival hopes a boost after second-half goals from Gavin Massey, Jacob Murphy and George Moncur helped them record back-to-back wins for the first time this season, despite George Waring's opener.

Colchester are now unbeaten in four matches following their victory over the Reds and are two points adrift of safety with six games to go.

Humes said: "It's something that we've always thought is possible because we know that on our day, we're a good team.

"It's just about confidence and belief at all times and we've done well.

"We should enjoy it but we can't get carried away - we have to make sure the momentum stays and we work hard.

“We were a bit cagey and tense in the first half and we just needed to free ourselves off a little bit and give it a go.

“Barnsley were undoubtedly the best side in the first half but we were on the front foot in the second half and I thought that we dominated after that.

“The players absolutely gave it their all – they’re absolutely out on their feet as I’m sure Barnsley’s players are – it was a great game.

“We can enjoy this but we just have to face and make sure we don’t waste what we’ve done in our last four games.”
