Sammie Szmodics has been a “revelation” since breaking into Colchester United’s starting line-up.
That is the view of U’s assistant manager Richard Hall, who has praised the attacking midfielder’s contribution this season.
Szmodics, who has made 28 first-team appearances for Colchester this season, bagged his fifth goal of the season in their defeat against Crawley Town.
The former Stanway School pupil produced a fine first-half display against the Reds, before being forced off at half-time with a facial injury.
Hall is hoping Szmodics will be fit for the U’s crucial six-pointer against Yeovil Town tonight.
He said: “Sammie has been a highlight since he’s been with us in the first team.
“He’s a tremendous young player - it was a big blow to lose him at half-time and we hope that he’ll be available for Tuesday.
“He’s been a revelation since he’s been in the senior squad.
“He’s taken a lot on his shoulders and has taken his chances well.”
