COLCHESTER United boss Tony Humes admitted his side have become a “soft touch” following tonight’s 4-1 defeat at Sheffield United.

The U’s boss was less than impressed with his side’s poor defending, in the League One contest.

Two goals from Jose Baxter, including one from the spot, and strikes from Matt Done and Jay McEveley condemned them to a heavy loss at Bramall Lane.

“We’ve become a bit of a soft touch,” said an angry Humes.

“If you don’t score you’re always making life hard for yourselves.

“We had seven chances in the first half and didn’t take them.

“And if you don’t defend properly you’re always going to get punished.

“The goals we conceded were soft ones and it’s down to the players to take responsibility.

“In terms of preparation, everything is done properly but the players have to take responsibility when they cross that line.

“This can’t go on.

“We’re a soft touch at the moment but we have to stick together and get through this tough spell.”
