MARCUS Bean has parted company with Colchester United.

The 30-year-old has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Bean joined in the summer of 2012 and made over 70 appearances in just over two years with the U's.

However, his first-team appearances had become limited and he joined Portsmouth on loan in November.

That loan ended last weekend and after returning to Colchester, it was agreed it would be better for him to continue his career away from the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

U's boss Tony Humes said: "Marcus wasn't getting the football he wanted here so it was the right thing to go out on loan initially.

"His contract with us has now been cancelled, allowing him to find another club.

"He was always a great professional here and we would like to thank him for his contribution at the club and wish him well for the future."
