Colchester United are in talks with FA Cup opponents Cardiff City to extend Rhys Healey’s stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Healey’s three-month loan at the U’s is due to expire next week but they are keen to keep the striker for longer.

The 20-year-old striker has made a positive impact since joining the League One club from the Bluebirds, in September.

Healey has so far found the net four times in 11 appearances for Tony Humes’ side.

And Colchester now want the promising youngster to stay and help them in their bid to move away from relegation trouble.

U’s chairman Robbie Cowling said: “We’re in talks with Cardiff about having Rhys here for longer."
