Kaspars Gorkss admits he was unsure of all of his team-mates’ names when he made his Colchester United bow.
But the experienced Latvian international is confident he can go from strength to strength with the U’s, after joining them on a short-term deal.
Gorkss had barely 48 hours to get to know Colchester’s players, prior to their FA Cup second-round tie with Peterborough United.
The 33-year-old only flew over from Latvia last Thursday and trained with the U’s the following day, after making a surprise switch to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
But Gorkss showed no signs of rustiness on his Colchester debut.
The centre-back produced an impressive display to help his new club beat Posh 1-0 and keep their first clean sheet since September.
Gorkss said: “It all happened very quickly - I spoke to them (Colchester) on Thursday and by the Friday, I was here.
“I’m not even sure that I know all of the names yet.
“Defensively, communication is a big thing and that probably wasn’t the best, from my point of view.
“It’s a very young team and I’m probably older than everyone by ten years!
“But now I have to prepare for the next game and it’s only going to get better.”
