DAVID Fox feared retirement could be on the cards before reviving his career at Colchester United.

And having enjoyed his time back with the club, the midfielder now wants to sign a new deal extending his stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The 30-year-old admits he was facing an uncertain future after being released by Norwich City.

He had an unsuccessful period training with Preston before joining Colchester and signing a three-month contract on October 6.

“I feel like I’m making up for lost time at the moment,” he said.

“I got to the point where I was thinking if it had gone on much longer, I might not have played any more football.

“The longer it goes on, the more you start to wonder.

“You start to have doubts and you never know what’s round the corner.

“I got to September and nothing was happening for me.

“If it had gone on for a couple of months, that might have been it.”

Instead, Fox has kick-started his career with the U’s, having previously played for the club in the 2009/10 season.

And with his short-term deal due to expire early next year, he admits he is keen to sign an extension.

“We’re getting to the point now where I think we’ll sit down and talk about it,” said the former Manchester United youngster, who played for England Under-20s.
