Colchester United will be without striker Freddie Sears ahead of tonight’s game with Shrewsbury Town.

Sears was withdrawn with a hamstring injury at half-time during the U’s 1-0 defeat at Crawley Town.

And the former West Ham youngster will not be risked for the match against the Shrews.

U’s boss Joe Dunne said: “Freddie came back out for the second half and had a tight hamstring.

“It’s a shame for him because we had him back for a few games and he’d been working hard for us.

“But it gives somebody else the opportunity to come in and do well, and we have good options.”

Striker Jabo Ibehre came through 70 minutes at the Broadfield Stadium after returning from pelvic and hip problems and should start against the Shrews.

U’s boss Dunne must decide whether or not to stick with Sanchez Watt in a central role, which proved effective in the second half againstCrawley.

Young midfielder Sammie Szmodics has been added to the U’s squad for their game against Shrewsbury.
