Colchester United are on the verge of completing a six-month loan deal for Chelsea defender Daniel Pappoe.

The 19-year-old featured for the U's in their 2-0 win at Bishop's Stortford this afternoon and the U's are set to sign the centre-back on loan from the Blues until January.

U's boss Joe Dunne said: "We're getting the paperwork through and Daniel will be with us until January.

"He's a player I've seen when I've been on the circuit and he's a very assured centre-back who needs a breakthrough now.

"He gives us great strength, power and an opportunity to work the ball.

"He's young and he reminds me a bit of George Elokobi, when he first came to Colchester."

Goals from Gavin Massey and Clinton Morrison gave the U's a 2-0 win in their friendly at Woodside Park.

Dunne said: "I'm delighted with how the overall day went.

"We got a lot more from it than we could have possibly had imagined from it, what with the heat and the way that Stortford kept the ball.

"They gave us one or two problems which was great for us and we've now finished this four-game period with everyone having sufficent game time, to move into the next phases with games against West Ham and Tottenham and then Braintree."
