John White has completed his switch to Southend United after leaving Colchester United.

The versatile defender has signed a two-year deal at Roots Hall, where he spent a month on loan during the 2009-10 season.

White, 26, left Colchester earlier this month after rejecting a new contract with the U's.

He chalked up more than 250 league and cup appearances for Colchester, after progressing through the youth ranks at Layer Road.

Absolutely stunned by this, I thought Mr White would be joining Parky at Bradford. To be dropping down a division is bad enough, but going to Sarfend as well is staggering - can they really have offered him better contract terms??

As i said regards Sanchez Watts, forget the location it's all about who can offer the best deal.
Personally i don't blame White for moving on if it's a longer contract and more money than we offered him.

Good luck to John White, he has had a taste of Roots Hall and knows what he is letting himself in for. And he won't have to move house. I hope the Shrimpers get promoted, that will mean we can play them the following season, and we will be able to see our favourite player once again.
This move marks a failure by Joe Dunne to make sure of retaining one of his best players. A great pity.

John was offered greatly reduced terms and Southend didn't need to break the bank to sign him. Unfortunately we are still enduring the legacy of John Fraud who tied up several average players on long and well paid contracts and Joe has to try and balance the books. It is a bit of a kick in the teeth for someone who has been at the club since a schoolboy and has conducted himself impeccably despite being overlooked for long periods of time and even after the Jackson 6 fiasco when he was exiled to play with the youth team when the Aston Villa manager was in charge. John and Lianne have a lovely young boy and he needs to provide for his future. I wish John all the best and he leaves with the best wishes of all decent and proper Col U fans. I'm a bit surprised he went to Southend considering they find it tricky to pay their players and have had more winding up petitions served on them than I've had hot dinners. That club is in the brown stuff and I will take great delight at seeing them suffer again. Better players have left us and we have coped.

Agree with all that, but I hope John does not end up as just one of the many creditors if/when SUFC becomes insolvent. Again, he will know the recent history of SUFC and hew knows the risk he is taking.
Good luck John, hope the club always pays your wages on time, and hope with your help they will get promoted.

how can anyone call John judas? you imagine walking into work and being told if you want to stay you have to take a large pay cut, do your hours, commitment, per
ks change? no.
he was a real credit to himself and the club acting professionally when many of us would have thrown our toys out the pram.good luck to him, an old school friend, and his lovely family. he deserves a change for the good.
