Wordsworth set for Ipswich move

Moving on? Colchester United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth is set to join Ipswich Town.
Anthony Wordsworth is closing in on move from Colchester United to East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town.
The midfielder is due to have a medical with the Championship club over a switch to Portman Road in the transfer window.
Wordsworth had been linked with a £200,000 switch to Town earlier this month, having been invited to train with Mick McCarthy’s squad.
A concrete bid did not materialise but the Gazette understands that a fee closer to around £100,000 could prove enough to land the U’s playmaker, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Wordsworth was linked with a move to Charlton Athletic last week but no bid was submitted and Addicks boss Chris Powell played down the speculation.
U’s boss Joe Dunne stated last week that Wordsworth may have to put a move to a bigger club on hold and help Colchester with their relegation battle, between now and the end of the season.
However, it now seems as though Wordsworth, who was suspended for the U’s 2-0 win over Walsall, could now move on before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

So much talent and skill, which I'm sure Mick Mac at Ipswich with his man management, will transform Woody into a future premiership star. I well remember another ex U's player that was allowed to leave for peanuts, again £100,000 yet he went on to become a Highbury hero. Perry Groves always had the crowd on his back at Layer Road and proved them all wrong. To me it's a travesty and shame that we are getting such a low fee for without doubt the most gifted player we had. He has frustrated not only me but many more by his laid back aproach, but ive always stated he does have skill, that has been wasted.

Glad he's leaving, but should have got more for him. I bet if he played for a Championship club and Ipswich wanted him, then they would give at least triple or even half a million. Pathetic, that small clubs need the money but get peanuts for their players.

Had so much potential but fell well short of what he actually delivered.
Can't see him ever playing at a higher level than Championship as he's too lazy and would be found out in the Premiership.
Hope they don't return him as faulty goods.

Played golf with him at Stoke- by -Nayland. On the par 3 7th on the Gainsborough course, Grovesy puts his tee shot about 8ft from the pin, turns to me and says "Get inside that", I hit a perfect 8 iron, one bounce and in the hole for my one and only ever hole in one.
Went back to the pro shop with my scorecard,the card was not signed by a witness, so i went looking for Perry, could'nt find him, back to the pro shop, turned out that Perry had left without paying his greenfee, no witness, no name on the clubhouse board.
So if you read these posts Perry, still not forgiven you.
PS, You still got the Putter you nicked from the Castle park putting green?

And £100,000 is not much to pay for one of the highest scoring midfielders in Colchester United's Football League history (35 goals in 177 league matches).
On the EADT website,there is a good
talk with John Ward,about Anthony
Wordsworth.Mr Ward says :
"Anthony is an acquired taste.
He has a languid style and people
assume he is lazy.But that is not the
case with him,either as a person or
as a player.Some Colchester United
fans might be pleased to see him go
because of that,but the more considered view will be that Ipswich
have signed a very good footballer."

How many from Free Kicks and Penalties ? Probably not many from open play.
£100,000 being a gamble was being sarcastic. In fact, I'm surprised we didn't have to pay them to take him (sarcasm again if you're unsure).
The proof will be in the next few years to see if he goes on to be the player that some rose tinted glass wearing Colchester fans think he is. Personally I don't think he'll be missed and don't think it will be long before he's begging to come back to where he had it nice and easy.
