Colchester United are closing in on a swoop for two experienced players to boost their relegation battle.

The Gazette understands that U’s boss Joe Dunne is keen to make the duo his latest signings in this month’s transfer window.

MK Dons striker Jabo Ibehre, who spent three months on loan at the U’s, is one of the players Colchester are hopeful of signing on a permanent basis.

The U’s have also agreed terms with an unnamed club for a second player but are yet to agree personal terms with him.

Either JD reads our posts or he thinks along the same lines as us supporters. But whatever it is, its good. As experience is what we need and Jabo is exactly what we need up front. Hopefully he isn't another Odejayi which was good on loan then wasn't much when he signed a deal.

Ibehre isn't going to be a prolific goal scorer but he does make the attack tick. The other player I hope is a central midfielder of real quality. Heaven knows we need both of them.

With regard to the A. N. Other player, I note he has yet to agree personal terms, which is where we always come unstuck, so there is definitely no guarantees there that we'll get him!
