Colchester United were beaten 3-1 by Coventry City tonight.

Anthony Wordsworth went close for Colchester early on, while U's keeper John Sullivan denied Franck Moussa.

Jabo Ibehre had a goal controversially ruled out for offside and Freddie Sears hit the crossbar, before Coventry took a 34th minute lead through Franck Moussa, who tapped in from Gary McSheffrey's low cross.

The Sky Blues went further ahead three minutes later when William Edjenguele's header from Carl Baker's shot was allowed to stand by referee Trevor Kettle, despite McSheffrey appearing to be in an offside position.

The goal led to protests from U's boss Joe Dunne and his players, who went in at half-time feeling hard done by.

But the U's showed good spirit in the second half and got themselves back in the game with 19 minutes to go when Tom Eastman headed in from Wordsworth's free-kick.

However, David McGoldrick wrapped up the points for Coventry with two minutes to go when he finished well.
