Dunne a proud man after leading U's to victory

Joe Dunne could not hide his delight after winning his first-ever match as Colchester United's permanent manager.
A brace from new signing Jabo Ibehre and Gavin Massey's fine finish gave Dunne his first win as U's boss, following his appointment last Thursday.
It was also Colchester's first win of the season, after ten attempts in league and cup.
Dunne said: "I'm very proud and it's a great honour to be manager of Colchester United.
"I thought that my players were outstanding.
"I know that it's not going to go well all of the time as we saw with their first goal.
"But it's about being brave and outstanding credit goes to the individuals who have done it for us today."

A wonderful start for Joe Dunne.
Fans were smiling and enthused for the first time in many months.
A huge cloud has been lifted today above WHCS.

I watched Joe taking training sessions with the youth team at Essex Uni a few years ago and was struck by his humility and method of connecting with the youngsters - not to mention his kindness and good humour!
It's the kind of thing you don't forget.
He should be glowing with pride tonight because anything this man does comes from the heart.

Well done. It was an enjoyable afternoon. Good Luck in the job Joe. Hope we can go on a run now. Id like to apologise to John Ward and fellow bloggers for any comments I have made over the last few months that have become personal. I promise to get behind the Manager, Chairman and players for the rest of the season and beyond.
Up the U's :)

Col U played good attacking football and with the addition of a few new faces that want to be out on that pitch we left to day with 3 points and smile on our faces.
A welcome first win for Col u, and a relief for the fans. Although hartlepool had chances to be two or three up in the first 30 mins. Second half, We tightened up in defence, and looked a lot more relaxed. Jabo has an keen eye for goal, and will score more. The real test will come on Tuesday, Swindon are flying high at the moment, and we will do well to get anything from this game. Also Yeovil on saturday, (away again) will be another tough test for our lads. I feel quietly confident our season is about to even out. Much too early to make predictions, but a top six position is perhaps still a target to aim for.

h, the relief! Thank goodness that came and what a vibe there was yesterday. It is a shame there werent a few more there but as long as those who do go are that positive and keep an atmosphere like that then at least we've got a place to start. It was a good game, the debutants all did well, Eastmond, desporte his early error, was constantly poking and prodding balls through, Watt looked busy and Ibehere looks a real threat. Massey I thought was incredible and Woody covered a lot of grass and looked really up for it today. A very strong, confident and commited performance and long may it continue. There was a passage of play, about 70 mins in, where we kept the ball in the corner, knocking it about between Rose (fair play to him by the way and good to hear a few little chants go his way, he keeps his head down and does try), Massey and Woody which, although not as spectacular as balls flying across goal or forty yard raking passes, gives a glimpse of a desire to keep the ball and perservere for the right opening. This is not a bottom of the table side. This is a strong team and we have to ALL get behind this team now. We will lose games but I say our season starts now. Lets see where we are at Christmas.

Jabo is the goal scorer we have been looking for, for the last what five years, strong powerful and composure in front of goal......absolutely brilliant and the football at times was different class.
Best of luck to Joe and Mark keep doing what you’re doing and then the fans will return. Up the U's!

It's only one win (so far) but, as others have said, it's a long overdue shot in the arm for all of us.
In his interview Joe was enthusiastic, proud and realistic about the task ahead - all of the things missing from J.W.
I also feel that the Club has communicated very well with the media and season ticket holders about J.W's departure and Joe/Mark's appointments. This indicates a willingness by the Club to do their bit in healing the rift that's opened up with many fans over past weeks.
Fans will return for entertaining football. Although small in absolute numbers, the increase in support between the Crawley and 'Pools matches was significant in percentage terms with the number of home fans up from around 2,200 to 3,300+.
Little-by-little may we now make some progress -and how nice it would be to have some cup success to get us all warmed up in the depth of this season's winter!
