A late penalty from Anthony Wordsworth helped Colchester United secure a 1-1 draw against Crawley Town tonight, in front of the lowest-ever league crowd at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Just 2,484 saw the U's end their run of three successive defeats, after Wordsworth scored from the spot with four minutes to go.
He converted his first goal of the season, after Marcus Bean had been fouled in the area.
The U's had fallen behind in controversial circumstances with 19 minutes to go when Crawley's Kyle McFadzean appeared to handle the ball in the six-yard box prior to bundling the ball past keeper Mark Cousins.
The draw means Colchester have failed to win any of their opening seven matches in League One this season.

Leave now Ward, as we are becoming a laughing stock, attendances have drastically fallen, and you have only won one game in 21 (shocking)
