Ward has support of Colchester United board
John Ward has the full support of the Colchester United board - despite the club’s dire start to the season.
U’s chairman Robbie Cowling and his directors remain fully behind their manager, according to general manager Tim Waddington.
Some Colchester supporters have called for Ward to be replaced in the U’s hot seat, after they failed to win any of their first six league games.
Struggling Colchester head into tonight’s home game against Crawley Town bottom of League One, after their worst start to a season in decades.
However, Waddington insisted that Cowling and his fellow directors are fully behind Ward, despite their lowly league position.
Waddington said: “We’re not looking to replace John.
“He has the support of Robbie Cowling, the board and everyone at the club.
“The merry-go-round will not be starting here and the club has a structure to stick to.
“John will be feeling a certain amount of pressure but that’s only the pressure that he puts on himself.
“We firmly believe that what we are doing throughout the football club, in terms of our philosophy throughout the age groups, is the right one.
“We won’t be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
“We’ve had a fairly hard start to the season but the results have been pretty fair, so far.
“We have to get that first win - John knows that and everybody knows that.
“But both he and Joe Dunne will be working extremely hard to find ways to get it tonight.”
