Wordsworth urges U's fans to keep the faith

Anthony Wordsworth has urged Colchester United fans to stay behind their team following their poor start to the season.

The U’s are languishing in the League One relegation zone, having failed to win any of their opening five matches.

They have won only one of their last 19 competitive fixtures, following their 1-0 loss at Brentford last weekend.

Wordsworth has admitted that Colchester’s start to the new campaign has been disappointing.

But the skilful midfielder has called on U’s supporters to back their side to rediscover their form.

Wordsworth said: “I know it’s disappointing but the fans have to try and stay with us.

“We’re trying to put things right for them and the support we had at Brentford was brilliant.

“It really does help to have that kind of support, when they’re being positive towards us and cheering and making noise.

“The results are hard to take at the minute and we just have to go back to the training ground and go again.

“The confidence and the team spirit is still there and there’s still a buzz in training.

“It’ll all come together eventually and we’re doing the right things.”

You havent turned up this season Wordsworth so you should pipe down fella, not talk to the local rag and concentrate on improving your fom and work hard in training. Clinton Morrison was honest enough to tell it how it is and he got dropped! You will be the first to ask to leave if we get relegated I bet.

Agree with Mr Honest. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Anthony - you haven't performed to the least of your best and that has cost us. Our midfield has looked ragged to be honest and rarely gets forward sufficiently to support the attack. Mind you, playing a 4-5-1 formation at home is hardly attack minded, so it may not be your fault. I would love to know what Mr Ward says to you at half time during his 'motivational' chats. If they are as positive and demonstrative as his touchline etiquette and body language, then I guess whatever the players say goes. Do you find him motivational; inspirational; a real demanding leader? I doubt it. Far too lacklustre and laid back - and it has been apparent for the last two seasons. I know the club is facing financial difficulties with competing with clubs with much higher budgets, but surely the game is 11 players v 11 players as was proved in 1971 when the U's overturned the 'mighty' Leeds? There is no 'I' in team - work together as a team for the common good and accept that you are not quite the 'hot property' you once were. You and your colleagues need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, otherwise you will be leaving anyway as we drop into the 2nd division! Up the U's!!

Tony you have undoubted abilty which to my mind is being wasted. I remember a very early game at the community staduim under Lambert when you never stopped running from the word go. After the game on the radio,Lambert gave you the highest praise possible. This is what frustrates me when I know you can be tactically a very good player but under the present management you under perform. Do yourself a favour and move on,not unless fresh management comes in and uses your abilty in an organised team as it should be.

Did your mum never tell you "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything?"

You have a severe lack of social skills my friend.

Am I the only person who has actually read the article before commenting????

At no point is this article about Wordsworth's personal form. Certainly not about Wards halftime tactic talks, which by the way none of know what is said.

But yes Wordsworth, form has been poor. Far too many draws, and not enough goals.
I will keep the faith like 3000+ Col U fans on saturday and yes, there will be another 50+ fans who will call for the managers sacking, possibly rising to hundreds should you loose again.
Keep the heads above water and it should come soon enough.

That's a bit rich coming from you Super, some of your comments in the past have hardly been what I would consider tactful. This is about opinions and people rarely see things the same way as others all of the time. Its funny how last season people criticized certain players, strangely enough nothing has changed apart from the clubs league position which albeit early doors is worrying to say the least don't you think?

I kind of have to agree here.

I'm not a big fan of wordsworth this season seeing him play pre-season and during this season he looks lost and half of the time doesnt know if hes a midfielder or forward. The only good thing about wordsworth last season was hes set pieces...
what on earth happened to that? lately hes set pieces are absolutely shockingly rubbish. I could do better and im not even a footballer.

Hes also very lazy, its depressing watching a player like him.

Pot, Kettle and Black spring to mind.

I believe you've said before that everyone is entitled to their opinion....even you, although most people don't tend to agree with you.

So who died and made you King or Queen of everything that is Colchester United related ?

As you seem to no so much and everyone else knows so little, why don't you go for the position of manager when JW gets the boot ?

Look forward to hearing your reply but remember "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything"

If Wordsworth has spoken to the media, it obviously means that they read the posts that us loyal fans type. That's the feeling I got when I read the above article. If so, hopefully things turn around for us, and they take some of our points across, ie Ward out. Wordsworth everyone is talking about your ability, I feel you have some good ability, but we haven't seen that this season. I think we all must agree that you're a better left midfielder then an attacking mid/forward wherever you play at the moment- no one knows. You need to stand up to the manager, and tell him where you want to play, because lets face it, it doesn't look like you like the current position, and also he won't say no to you, as he seems like a pushover.

Altough I'm surprised that you are urging fans to stay patient, as we have done that for far too long now, because of the boring defensive football, with a lack of chances, goals, and points.

Super I don't know why you are thinking that it will only be 50 odd fans saying they want Ward out, I reckon it's the opposite. 3,000 want him out and probably 50 think he's a good manager (ie you)

Oh dear Super, I've lost count the number of times where you have said inappropriate stuff on her to people, including myself.

Steve! you mention Mr Ward being a pushover. Well I did get told in a friendly polite sort of manner from someone on the the clubs open day, that J.W. is rather head strong in his ways. Perhaps he does not listen to other peoples views or idea's. You echo my thoughts regards where Woody plays because he seems like a lost sheep at the moment.
