Newson claims a Paralympic bronze

POWERLIFTER Zoe Newson pulled out the stops to claim a bronze medal at the Paralympic Games.

The 20-year-old, from East Bergholt, equalled her personal best of 88kg in the women’s -40kg category at the Excel Centre.

On her first effort she managed 84kg and then there was drama as officials deemed her second attempt a “no lift”.

It meant the pressure was on but Newson rose to the occasion, managing a sensational 88kg.

The event was won by Turkey’s Nazmiye Muslu, who managed an incredible 106kg.

China’s Cui Zhe was second, with 97kg.
