U's rubbish link with former England goalkeeper

No go - former Ipswich Town goalkeeper Richard Wright will not be moving to Colchester United. No go - former Ipswich Town goalkeeper Richard Wright will not be moving to Colchester United.

Veteran goalkeeper Richard Wright will not be signing for Colchester United.

Rumours had linked the former Arsenal, Ipswich Town and England keeper with a move to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Wright is a free agent after leaving Preston North End after only one week at the League One club.

However, U’s boss Ward said: “It’s incorrect information to say that we’re interested in signing Richard Wright.

“I have said that I will go with Mark Cousins and Carl Pentney next season and that hasn’t changed.

“I’m not looking to sign any other goalkeepers.”

Thank goodness for that! Maybe he should join our Suffolk neighbours and help them with their relegation push!I have heard other possible interests in players being potentially Rowan Vine coming back on trial as he has no club now having left QPR; Alan Lee would like to return to East Anglia and fancies dropping down a division from Huddersfield to join the U's;and Billy Paynter is apparently on John Ward's 'wish list'. However, we have already got the former Luton forward, Amari Morgan-Smith on trial for two weeks. Let's hope there is more to come! I would add that these are only rumours, but Morgan-Smith has been seen around Colchester. Up the U's!

No one wants him at Col u as a player, but it would have been beneficial for the u's and him to have him training with us. I am sure he has something to offer Cousins and Pentney With put stepping on the toes of the coach.

Alan Lee would be an excellent target man for me. When we played Huddersfield he won nearly every header from free kicks and corners. Been a good ploy for Rhodes so why not Sears now. He also lives only a few miles up the A12 so on the doorstep.

Rowan Vine provided one of the most famous quotes in Colchester United's history after scoring a hat-trick for the U's against Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round replay at Layer Road on February 3,2004.
After the match,he said :
"I dedicate this hat-trick to my
brother,Ben,who is in jail.He
gets out in December."
